I go to mass at the Chapel of San Pedro Calungsod at SM Aura on Sundays. It is quite strange that as a Bakikbayan vacationing every year for 3 months (mid-January till mid-April), I have witnessed the same priest officiating Sunday mass at 10:00 am coming late on many occasions. He is scandalously late between 30 minutes to almost a full hour one time. Once, he gave a reason and apologized. The succeeding times – no explanation nor apology. It is strange though that at parish churches, I have never witnessed a single priest late for mass. Go figure.

If this particular Priest is late coming from another mass or for ANY other reason, logic begs that an adjustment in his schedule should be done or better still, SM should start considering having a Priest who can be on time on a regular basis.

Tardiness for whatever reason is disrespectful to God as well as to the parishioners who are on time.

So, please — basic respect is glaringly missing in our everyday life in the Philippines. To those who are respected because you represent our Lord, give a good example and know that even the clergy are not exempt from explanations nor apology. It is basic decency.

Greten says:

Greetings sister in Christ.
I do agree that tardiness is a disrespect to God. God is present in the priest. God is also present in the parishioners. Therefore, mutual respect is important to glorify and worship God.

I’m keeping this comment if there are others who has the same experience, but I did not experience it personally as I attended mass in this chapel only once, and it was at night.
